FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness which lies between awake and sleep. It is also referred to as hypnotherapy, hypnotic suggestion, guided meditation, guided imagery or creative visualization (self-hypnosis).

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people experience a deep state of relaxation of both mind and body. Mental chatter goes away. Physical discomfort and pain are usually less present during a professional hypnosis session.

The specifics of the experience feel different for everybody: mental clarity, vivid imaginative experiences, lightness or heaviness of body…

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is a non-invasive suggestion method that promotes healing. It has no harmful effects. It is recognized as effective by several medical and psychological associations. Among others, it has been recognized by the American Medical Association as a legitimate form of medical treatment since 1958. It is offered in many hospitals to their patients as a treatment option.

What qualifications do you have?

Stephanie completed an advanced, expanded and rigorous hypnotherapy program at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Their Advanced Professional Hypnotherapy program is endorsed by the American Board of Hypnotherapy, the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, the National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapists, the American Board of Hypnotherapy, the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, and the International Medical & Dental Hypnotherapy Association.

How do I prepare for a professional hypnosis session?

There is no preparation needed. It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothing that will promote relaxation.

How is a typical session?

You are comfortably sited, preferably at home or in a location where you can safely relax and not be disturbed. The session lasts about 1 hour with a 20-minute discussion about your objective, a 30-minute hypnotic state and a 10-minute wrap-up. Hypnotic state is often described as a calm, physically, and mentally relaxed experience.

What if I cannot be hypnotized?

Most people can be hypnotized if they are willing. Different techniques are available to fit the client’s needs and preferences.

Will I lose control of my behavior?

The American Psychological Association describes hypnosis as a cooperative interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist. Your free will remains intact throughout the session. Therefore you will not do or say something that you are not comfortable with.

Will I be instructed or commanded?

We understand that people having witnessed stage hypnosis or comedy hypnotist shows, where the public is entertained by watching volunteers perform unusual or ridiculous actions, may be apprehensive about the approach. Hypnosis as a therapeutic method is completely different. It is tailored to the individual's goals and honors their preferences.

We promote a permissive approach where the client chooses how to participate. An affirmation and hypnotic suggestions are developed together at the beginning of the session in a language that feels true to the client.

I have been unsuccessful at changing this habit, are my chances greater with hypnosis?

While under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and you can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory, feeling or sensation while blocking out distractions.

Therefore you are more open than usual to suggestions, and this can be used to modify your perceptions, behavior, sensations and emotions with a greater chance of success.

Will I remember everything?

Depending on your relaxation level during the hypnotic trance, you may or may not consciously remember the visualizations. Some people remember them later in the day as it can happen with dreams. One way or another it does not affect the effectiveness of hypnosis.

Will I “wake up” from hypnosis?

Hypnosis differs from sleep. The client is in a state of focused attention and remains aware of what is going on around them.

Is there a guarantee?

While numerous studies have clinically proven hypnosis to be highly effective, there is no guarantee and results may vary depending on client’s cooperation and readiness to implement the change.

How can I increase the results?

Repeating the affirmation daily and/or practicing meditation at home will reinforce the benefits of the professional hypnosis session.

Is the session confidential?

Every professional hypnosis session is completely private and confidential. We will not share your personal information. The only exception would be if required by law or court order.
